Synopsis

The story of the film

The Land of Religions travels through the mountain landscape of South Sinai to Saint Catherine’s Monastery, a fortified Christian monastery founded in the sixth century and still serving its original religious purpose. The film places the monastery within the geography that shaped it: granite peaks, desert valleys, pilgrimage routes and Mount Sinai, a place of deep significance in Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions.

Through images of the land, the monastery’s architecture, sacred interiors, icons, manuscripts and moments of devotion, the documentary recounts how this remote community became both a living sanctuary and a guardian of cultural memory. It considers the relationship between natural isolation and spiritual life, and the ways faith, scholarship and human care have preserved the site across more than fifteen centuries.

The title The Land of Religions refers to this shared sacred landscape. The film does not collapse the three faiths into one story; it shows how Judaism, Christianity and Islam each recognize the mountain and its surroundings within their own traditions, making South Sinai a rare meeting point of place, history and belief.
